Assisi

Museo Capitolare, Piazza S.Rufino

 

The Chapter House Museum contains the works of Alunno, Matteo da Gualdo and Puccio Capanna.

 

Museo Civico, Via Portica

 

Here are Etruscan-Roman objects and a corridor leads to the ruins of the Roman Forum, the foundations of the Temple of Minerva and the foundations of an aedicule with statues of Castor and Pollux.

 

 

Museo della Porziuncola, Assisi (S.Maria degli Angeli)

 

The musum offres important art-works such as, the Crucifix of Giunta Pisano (1236), Saint Francis attributed to the Maestro di San Francesco (XIII) and the Incoronation of the Virgin Mary by Andrea della Robbia.

 

 

Museo Tesoro della Basilica di S.Francesco, Via S.Francesco

 

The Treasury Museum contains valuable rare illustrated manuscripts, paintings, reliquaries, church ornaments and the Perkins Collection (14th and 15th century paintings)

 

 

Pinacoteca Comunale, Via S.Francesco

 

The Municipal Picture Gallery contains frescoes by the Byzantine, Umbrian and Senesce schools as well as those painted by the followers of Giotto.

 

 

Rocca Maggiore

 

The ancient fortress of Assisi was the scene of many historical events. The building was raised to the ground by the citizens of Assisi in 1198 and rebuilt by the Papal legate, Cardinal Albornoz in 1367. 

 

 

Bettona

Pinacoteca Comunale, Palazzo della Podestà

  

The palace of the Podestà houses the Picture Gallery, which includes the works by Perugino, Andrea della Robbia, Tiberio d'Assisi and Dosso Dossi. There are also Etruscan-Roman objects on show.

 

 

Bevagna

The Town Hall houses the Municipal Picture Gallery, which contains works from the 15th till the 18th century.

 

 

Città di Castello

Burri Collection, Piazza Garibaldi

  

The palace Albazzini contains the works by Alberto Burri. The collection is exhibited in chronological order.

 

 

Museo Burri, Viale V.E. Orlando, loc. Rignaldello

 

The museum is housed in twelve big barns, which once were used by the 

tobacco growers. Alberto Burri transformed the enormous space into a studio-museum for his big art works.

In this museum one can see the highly valuable Treasure of the Sanctuary of Canoscio, a collection which includes numerous examples of Early Christian Art.

 

 

Pinacoteca Comunale, Palazzo Vitelli alla Cannoniera

 

The gallery is set out in the 16th century Vitelli alla Cannoniera Palace. It was built by Antonio da Sangallo il Giovane. This museum contains the works of Raffael, Justus van Gent, Luca Signorelli a.o. 

 

 

Deruta

Pinacoteca e Museo Regionale della Maiolica, piazza dei Consoli

 

The palazzo Comunale houses on the first floor the Picture Gallery, which 

contains paintings from the town's churches and numerous works of the Lione 

Pascoli Collection. On the second floor houses the ceramics museum which

contains ceramics from the 16th-18th century. 

 

 

Ferentillo

Comitero le Mummie di Ferentillo, chiesa di Santo Stefano

 

In the crypt of the church of St.Stephen the bodies of  the deceased  mummified, because of a combination of particular circumstances, like the composition of the soil and the ventilation of the space. The mummies are in windows. Two of them  have show rests of clothes.

 

 

Foligno

Museo Archeologico  e    Pinacoteca Comunale, piazza d. Grano

 

The palazzo Trinci houses the archeological museum e la Pinacoteca. The interior has many rooms containing frescoes from the 15th- 16th century. The chapel is decorated with frescoes by Ottaviano Nelli. The Picture Gallery contains works by artist as Nicolò Alunno, Dono Doni e Piero Mazzaforte, Benozzo Gozzoli and Mezzastris.

 

Multimedia Museum of Tournaments Jousts and Games, palazzo Trinci

The museum is intended for all, for those who see jousts and tournaments as an occasion for sport, for those who are doing research in this field or who see it as a new opportunity to explore in depth the fascinating universe of jousts, tournaments and games.

 

 

Gualdo Tadino

Pinacoteca Comunale, Rocca Flea

 

The collection is dominated by a splendid triptych  by Alunno, The museum contains also works by Matteo da Gualdo and frescoes painted by various schools (14th and 15th cent.

 

 

Gubbio

Museo della Cattedrale, Duomo

 

The Diocesan Museum  contains 14th and 15th century painted panels, detached frescoes and other interesting objects and exhibits.

 

Museo Civico, Palazzo dei Consoli, piazza Grande

 

The Archaeological Museum contains the famous Eugubine tablets, which constitute a unique key to both the understanding of the ancient Umbrian language and civilization and the study of the ancient Italic populations.

 

Pinacoteca, Palazzo dei Consoli, piazza Grande

 

In the Gallery are paintings by artists of Gubbio dating from the 14th to the 16th century, paintings by the Venetian school  and other Umbrian artists.

 

 

Montefalco

Museo di S.Francesco, Via Ringhiera Umbra

 

The ex-church of St. Francis contains today a museum. Amongst the important art works is the fresco cycle with scenes from the life of St. Francis by Benozzo Gozzoli. There are many other works by Umbrian artist to admire, like the frescoes of L'Alunno, Il Perugino en Tiberio d'Assisi.

 

 

Norcia

Museo Civico Diocesano la Castellina

   

The Civic Museum is located in this fortress, built by Vignola. The museum contains a terracotta group by Giovanni della Robbia, wooden Madonna from the 13- 14e century and other local works.

 

 

Orvieto

Museo Archeologico 'Claudia Faina', palazzo Faina, Piazza Duomo I

 

The exhibits are donated by Count Claudio Faina and  include objects from the Greek and Etruscan period. One of the most outstanding exhibits is an etruscan sarcophagus (4 century BC)

 

 

Museo archeologico Nazionale, Palazzo Papale, Piazza Duomo

 

The museum has collections of burial apparel and object found in the Etruscan necropolis Crocifisso e Cannicella in the surroundings district.

 

 

Museo dell'opera del Duomo, Palazzo Soliani, Piazza Duomo

 

The museum contains medieval and renaissance paintings, detached frescoes, church furnishings and sculptures from artists like Simone Martini, Arnolfo di Cambio, Pisano and Luca Signorelli.

 

 

Perugia

Collegio del Cambio, Corso Vannucci 25, 

 

The old exchange is situated next to the Priors Palace. The sala dell' udienza del Cambio (the Hall of the exchange sessions) is decorated by marvelous frescoes by the famous Umbrian painter Perugino and his students Andrea di Assisi and, according to Venturi, Raphael Sanzio. The worked in the period 1496-1507.  The subjects depicted were proposed by the humanist Francesco Maturanzio. We see the most important philosophers, prophets, the sibyls, and the transfiguration, The Birth  and God in Gloria.

 

 

Galleria Nazionale dell' Umbria, Palazzo Priori

 

The museum is situated on the third floor of the Priors Palace and contains masterly examples of the paintings of the Umbrian School, which dates from the 13th till the 18th century. Between the most important works are: 'La Madonna' by Duccio, the 'Polyptych of Dominicans' by Beato Angelico, The 'Pala della Sapienza'  by Benozzo Gozzoli, 'the miracle of S.Bernardino' by Pinturicchio and the 'Polyptych of S.Antionio' by Piero della Francesca.

 

 

Ipogeo dei Volumni. Loc. Ponte S. Giovanni

    

The tomb of the Volumni is one of the most well known tombs in Umbria. It dates back to the 3rd -2nd BC. The tomb is built in the form of a Roman house. In the cella are seven cinerary urns of which one of marble and  the other six of Travertine covered with stucco. The most remarkable is the one of Arunte Volumnio, head of the family.

In the academia is a little collection of modern paintings and a gallery of plaster casts.

 

 

Museo Archeologico Nazionale dell'Umbria, piazza Giordano Bruno, convento di San Domenico

   

The museum is located in the Cloister of  ex-convent of S. Domenico and contains an Etruscan-Roman and prehistoric section. 

 

 

Museo Capitolare della Cattedrale di San Lorenzo, Chiostro di S.Lorenzo.

 

One enters the Cathedral museum through the Cathedral cloister. The museum contains furnishings, vestments and painted panels. Note worthy is the Pala di S.Onofrio by Luca Signorelli and the Pietà by Caporali.

 

 

Preci

Museum van de Abbazia di S.Eutizio in Valcastoriana

 

The museum is located in some halls of the abbey. The collection contains wood sculptures, panel paintings, silver work and embroidery.

 

 

Spoleto

Museo Diocesano di Spoleto-Norcia, Palazzo Arcivescovile

 

The collection of the diocesan museum contains important paintings from the 13e - de 19e century: Filippino Lippi, Domenico Beccafumi, del Cavaliere d'Arpino en Sebastiano Conca. The sculpture collections covers a wide range of materials and styles. There are Romanesque wood sculptures and Bernini's bronze bust of Urban VIII.
