Level 1
The tours in this category are easy and designed for those who have their first walking experience or have little training. They can even be undertaken by families with children, who have a certain walking experience. You walk along easy and well-maintained paths or quiet country roads, mostly flat or with not too many ascent and descent (not more then + – 250m). Easy walking, giving you time to enjoy nature and cultural interesting towns in a relaxed way. The km/miles to walk are 10-12 / 6-8 miles per day / walking time about 3-4 hrs.
Level 2
The tours in this category are easy to moderate and designed for those who have their first experience, but have some walking experience. They can also be undertaken by families with children from 8 years and on, of course if they have walking experience. You walk along paths or quiet country lanes in a landscape with moderate hills, variety of surfaces. There are not too difficult ascents and descent (not more then + – 400m. The tours are for lovers of walking looking for relaxed walks to enjoy nature and culture. The km/miles to walk are 10-16 / 6-10 miles per day / walking time about 3-5 hrs.
Level 3
The tours in this category are moderate to difficult and designed for advanced, experienced and trained walkers with a good physical condition. They can only be undertaken by families with children over 14 years, who are experienced walkers. You walk along irregular walking paths or country roads in a hilly and middle-mountain landscape with notable differences in height (+ – 400 m till 1000m). This are energetic tours with a rewarding of magnificent views. The km/miles to walk are 16-25 / 10-16 miles per day / walking time about 5-6 hrs.
Level 4
The tours in this category are difficult and designed for experienced mountain hikers with an excellent physical condition. You are walking mostly in the mountains of 1500- 3000m high, on rocky trails and irregular surface. The ascent and descent is significant (more then +-600m). You have to know the mountains and there climate well. You need appropriate and good quality equipment. The km/miles to walk are 16-30 / 10-16 miles per day / walking time about 6-8 hrs.
Level 1
Tours in this category are easy and designed for those who do not have or have little training. They can be undertaken by families with young children. The gentle routes are along quiet country lanes or cycle paths, almost always flat or with little gradient (no more than 200m). You cycle 3-4 hrs a day and have enough time to enjoy villages, beaches or swimming pool… The km/miles to cycle are maximum 35-40 km / 21-25 miles per day.
Level 2
Tours in this category are easy to moderate and designed for those who are looking for a relaxed tour. Some training welcome, but you no special technical skills are required. They can be undertaken by families with children from 8 years. The gentle routes are on flat and rolling terrain with an occasional hill. You pedal mostly, along quiet country lanes or cycle paths. There are some hills, but if steep they are short (no more than 300m). You cycle 4-5 hrs a day and have enough time to enjoy villages, terraces with a good class of wine, beaches or swimming pool… The km/miles to cycle are maximum 35-50 km / 21-32 miles per day.
Level 3
Tours in this category are moderate to difficult and designed for those who like more challenging rides in a rolling terrain with hills. You have to be trained with a good physical condition. These tours are not suitable for children under 14 years. Cycling is an important part of the day, but there will be still time left to explore the towns you pass through. There are significant differences in height (no more than 800m). The km/miles to cycle are maximum 70 km / 45 miles per day.
Level 4
Tours in this category are advanced and difficult. There are designed for those who like challenging rides in a hilly / mountainous terrain with long climbs. You have to be well trained with a good physical condition. These tours are not suitable for children under 16 years. Cycling is the most important part of this holiday. There are significant differences in height ( more than 800m). The km/miles to cycle are more than 70 km / 45 miles per day.
WALKING & CYCLING LEVELS
Our walking and cycling levels are based on daily distances, ascent & descent and terrain difficulty. Of course it is a general indication, because an itinerary can be mostly flat, but has more km to walk or to cycle or has a more irregular terrain…or a tour can be a middle way between two levels.
