This tour “Truffle Hunting” will make your day absolutely special!
Experience this old tradition of Umbria, a region where it is possible to find various varieties of truffles. Truffle in Umbria is also known as “the King of the Table” or the ‘Diamond of the Kitchen’, since it is a real speciality and fetches a high price.
Truffle hunting in Umbria is a unique experience combining nature, discovery and flavour. You will learn new skills, explore the countryside and enjoy plenty of fun. Depending on the season, the experience takes place in the hills of Montefalco or Trevi, in an unspoilt landscape rich in truffles and olive trees.
You are warmly welcomed by a local truffle hunter, who will guide you together with his well-trained dogs. During a relaxing walk through woods and fields, you learn how to observe, recognise and identify truffles. The truffle hunter explains how truffles are cleaned, stored and used in the kitchen – and of course, you will taste them.
Truffle Hunting in Montefalco
You are in Montefalco, known as the balcony of Umbria for its breathtaking views. While famous for its wines, this area has also been rich in truffles for centuries.
The experience takes place in the rolling hills around the historic centre of Montefalco. Together with a local expert guide, you enjoy a short introductory walk from the town centre to the countryside, where you meet the truffle hunter and his dog(s). Along the way, you learn about local products, with a special focus on truffles.
The truffle hunter shares his knowledge about different truffle varieties and their culinary use. Afterwards, you enjoy a truffle tasting, either during a countryside picnic or with local Km 0 products and a glass of Montefalco wine in the historic centre.
⏱ Duration: approx. 2.5 – 3 hours
Truffle Hunting in Trevi
Trevi, often called the capital of olive oil, is perched on a hill surrounded by silver-green olive groves. Around 10:00 am, you meet the truffle hunter in the hills of Trevi and head together to the truffle grounds at around 1,000 metres above sea level.
Here you actively search for truffles in the wild. The freshly found truffles are tasted on the spot, for example, on a freshly prepared omelette. The experience continues with a traditional Italian lunch featuring truffle dishes, including antipasto, primo, secondo and dessert.
Afterwards, you may visit Trevi or continue on your own to Spello or Assisi.
